Roger Hackney

 Mr. Roger Hackney picture Mr. Roger Hackney is currently President of BOSTAA and chair of the organising committee.

His interest in sports medicine grew from his experiences as an athlete. He competed in 3 Olympic Games, achieving 5th in the World Championships and a Commonwealth Games silver medal in the 3000 m steeplechase.

He has served as secretary of the British Association of Sports and Exercise Medicine where he developed the sports medicine education programme from 2 courses to 8 a year.

He trained in orthopaedics in the Royal Air Force, London and Nottingham where he was shoulder fellow to Professor Angus Wallace. He has a Diploma in Sports medicine with distinction from the original London Hospital course. He has served as external examiner to the MSc courses in sports medicine in Bath, Hong Kong and Dublin. He currently works as an upper limb/sports surgeon in the Leeds Teaching hospitals NHS trust, UK.
